Duplicate accounts are extra accounts for the same person, created either by accident or on purpose.
A duplicate account is an extra account created by the same person. Usually this happens by accident. If so, you can have the accounts merged back again: How can one link / merge / combine / associate two accounts / users? (Anonymous / unregistered / cookie, or OpenID / registered)
Duplicate accounts created on purpose are permitted, provided you are not using the account to bypass a ban or limitations on what one account alone can do (e.g. fraud). Also see sock-puppets.
