Use for questions about saying thanks to another user, including through the "thanks" reaction, comments, voting, and accepting. This includes questions on when it is appropriate to thank, how to thank, etc.

I find this a nice example on how it doesn't work:
OP has now 3 options to pick from (+1, answer, thanks). … Ironically, marking as accepted might be even overseen
They will leave the thanks comment anyway
