I don’t think this is a bad change. Cheap to implement, and the reasoning for the rewards being set the way they were are not particularly convincing either.
My only misgivings are:
While not inherently bad, it is also unclear to me what do we gain by making this change, or what were we losing before.
Side effects. Many users will achieve the upvote privilege sooner. It follows that there will be more upvotes around. Upvotes are nice, but they can make deleting poor content harder; which is key to curation efforts.
