This is also very confusing if you browse multiple sites since the other sites have the original top navbar. Each child site should have similar layout and navigation so the flow is the same on any site. Even sites that are along the same computer programming genre line (code review, software engineering)have the original navbar and for me it is confusing switching to a child site and having a completely unique navbar when the old one was fine.
If you are going to make the change on one site, it should happen across all the sites.
