Description:
This course provides an alternate, self-directed way to learn college algebra concepts using ALEKS, a Web-based math assessment and learning system. You will use ALEKS to determine your individual study plan, and the necessary number of credits you will register for. In the classroom, you will use ALEKS at your own pace with the help of an instructor. You will demonstrate mastery of these concepts: functions and graphs, polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of linear equations and matrices, sequences and series, and conic sections.

1. Linear/quadratic equations and inequalities 2. Domain, range, even/odd and Inverse Functions 3. Polynomial, rational, logarithmic and exponential functions with graphs 4. Complex roots of polynomials 5. Systems of equations, matrices, determinants and non-linear systems of equations 6. Sequences and series

Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of functions, relations, and graphs
2. Solve polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions
3. Demonstrate the ability to solve systems of linear equations using matrices, row-reducing, and matrices
4. Interpret mathematical models using formulas, graphs, and tables
5. Translate real world problems into mathematical models
6. Analyze the graph of a function using principles of reflection, symmetry, and translation

Prerequisites:

Placement score into MATH 1116 or completion of MATH 0080 or MATH 0088. It is strongly recommended that students have completed MATH 0080 or MATH 0088 with a grade of "C" (2.0) or higher.
