Slightly different wording. It's probable that Google did attempt to notify us, but those notifications likely went to someone who no longer works here. Claiming Google did not attempt to notify us is misleading.

Turns out that Google has removed the Stack Overflow app from Google Play without any notice and without telling Stack Exchange doesn't know why they did it.

Stack Exchange chose to not dig into it, since as the other answer already says, the app is no longer developed anyway, so it's pointless.
