Why Stack Exchange use Imgur to Host Images? What are the advantages of it?

Even Stack Exchange pay to Imgur to their service. So why Stack Exchange can't save images on their Stack Exchange? Then cost will be too high than they pay for Imgur?

But I don't think that money is the key. Generally, Stack Exchange store images on Imgur means they are little bit depend on Imgur(their servers may be down or lost data or anything). So that is a disadvantage.
